Eligibility
In the Protocol
A Solution must respect several criteria to be eligible and enable the company delivering the Solution, i.e. the Contributing Entity, to issue and distribute Climate Dividends.
It is important to note that:
The Solution does not have to be located in a specific region to be eligible for Climate Dividends (no location restriction)
The Solution does not have to demonstrate additionality. The Solution can generate Climate Dividends, no matter if it is profitable or not, or if the developer of the Solution can finance it alone.
The Solution does not have to be innovative. The Solution can generate Climate Dividends even if it simply develops or scales up an existing solution that contributes to global carbon neutrality. An illustrative example is a company that sells heat pumps to individual consumers and provides them with a less carbon-intensive heating solution.
Eligibility is the first critical step to issue Climate Dividends. Indeed, you need to comply with some Eligibility criteria.
The Eligibility criteria are roughly aligned with the eligibility gates laid out in the WBCSD Guidance on Avoided Emissions. They have been set, mostly to:
ensure transparency and avoid greenwashing
ensure consistency in company's climate action
There are 2 types of Eligibility criteria (click on the dedicated page to see more info):
At the Company (or "Contributing Entity") level - your organization needs to comply with different requirements depending on its size.
At company levelAt the Solution level - the product/service for which you're making a claim need to comply with a set of criteria
